The capital has fallen.
The Darkling rules Ravka from his shadow throne.
Now the nation's fate rests with a broken Sun Summoner, a disgraced tracker, and the shattered remnants of a once-great magical army.
Deep in an ancient network of tunnels and caverns, a weakened Alina must submit to the dubious protection of the Apparat and the zealots who worship her as a Saint. Yet her plans lie elsewhere, with the hunt for the elusive firebird and the hope that an outlaw prince still survives.
Alina will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and Mal race to find the last of Morozova's amplifiers. But as she begins to unravel the Darkling's secrets, she reveals a past that will forever alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields. The firebird is the one thing that stands between Ravka and destruction—and claiming it could cost Alina the very future she’s fighting for.
From the beginning of this series i thought that this story was special and unique, full of surprises and strong characters, full of adventures and mind-blowing moments..Everything was exactly like i wrote above, but i honestly admit that i regret the fact that i never got the chance to read about a character i loved, one whom i wished he's path would change and that he wouldn't be the bad guy until the end..Yet,that didn't happen, but now i understand that it had to happen in that order..
In this book Alina's faith is tested, making her wish for something more, something that could help her stop the Darkling and something that could save the entire Ravka. But somehow everything is a challenge and the Darkling is determined to have her and the third amplifier with all costs.Yet,nobody knows where the third amplifier is,nobody suspects where it could be,even with Mal's great tracking skills..What if the amplifier is right in front of them? What if in order for Alina to have all the amplifiers someone she loves has to die? What if...
This whole book was crazy complicated and it drove me insane, cause i hoped for something that i knew that was impossible. And,i admit that at some point i was a little shocked and then angry, because knowing that my favorite character won't have the end i wished for him,and then another character was doomed. And that,my friend, was my limit.(the reason why i gave this book 3.5 stars, not 5.)I loved this series and i hoped that it will have an amazing,mind-blowing and epic end,but it seems that despite the salvation of Ravka and a lot of things that happened,i am not satisfied with what happened.
I have a lot of reason why i didn't enjoy this book as much as i enjoyed reading the first books, and i won't write about all of them.
Alina was the only character who was exactly like i expected her to be.Strong and determined, always the first to do crazy things.Mal?I hated what happened to him and i hated the fact that he had a huge role in the whole destruction of the Fold.Yes,he was one of my favorite characters ,because step by step he managed to win my heart. How?Because he was sweet, loyal, determined and badass.Yes,i know he was just a normal human and tralalala..But,he was amazing.
The Darkling?Oh,my sweet dark boy..How i wished for a different end,but it seems that i don't always get what i want.I know,i'm crazy! But i'm sure that i'm not the only one who wanted everything to be different for him.
Nikolai?Holy heck! What was that? And why?But at least i got the chance to read about him becoming King and it was worth it.
It was crazy!I swear..Betrayals,lies and many,many secrets.Madness,if you ask me.Yet,it wasn't enough.
I won't write much about what happened in this book, because i'm a little dissapointed and i don't want to ramble like a lunatic.
