In a time when Shadowhunters are barely winning the fight against the forces of darkness, one battle will change the course of history forever. Welcome to the Infernal Devices trilogy, a stunning and dangerous prequel to the New York Timesbestselling Mortal Instruments series.
The year is 1878. Tessa Gray descends into London’s dark supernatural underworld in search of her missing brother. She soon discovers that her only allies are the demon-slaying Shadowhunters—including Will and Jem, the mysterious boys she is attracted to. Soon they find themselves up against the Pandemonium Club, a secret organization of vampires, demons, warlocks, and humans. Equipped with a magical army of unstoppable clockwork creatures, the Club is out to rule the British Empire, and only Tessa and her allies can stop them...
Starting this series i realized the fact that i stepped into a new whole world.Mysterious and full of adventures, with fantastic and strong characters, capable of distroying everything or creating amazing scenes, scenes that make you believe that everything is possible, and it makes you want to know more about that world.
Even if i'm not a big fan of book written from 3rd point of view,it seems that i have some exception, and this one ended up being one of those exceptions.
I admit that i prepared myself from the beginning, thinking that maybe this book will be just another book with simple magical creatures and nothing else, but what i found it can't be described in just a few words.
Cassandra Clare managed to offer us an incredible world,a world in which the vampires, werewolfes, warlocks and demons coexist, but her greatest achievement are the Shadowhunters, the nephilims.Half human, half angel.Strong, charming and capable of anything just to protect the human kind, the way they were described was good, charming and very interesting.
I was fascinated by this story from the beginning.Because of the way it started and how things evolved step by step, transformind into a captivanting and brilliant story.
Tessa Gray's life changed completely after her aunt Harriet died.Being called by her brother in London, all Tessa wanted was to see Nathaniel again and live her life. But what she finds in Lodon isn't exactly what she hoped for, especially when things start getting stranger and stranger.
Nephilims.Demons.Vampire...and what not. Will Tessa understand that her life will never be the same again?
I liked Tessa from the beginning.I liked the fact that she was a strong character, stubborn and capable of learning everything. She proved that she was brave, especially in the beginning when she was the prisoner of some magicians, the Sisters Dark, and every time she was put in dangerous situations. But i have to admit that some times her stubborness was annoying.
My opinion started to change step by step, especially when the nephilims appeared, mainly my favorite Shadowhunters:William Herondale and James Carstairs. They mamanged to make me fall in love more with this magical world.
William Herondale was described as the rebel of the group, the one who always has a smile on his face and looks like he is always in a good mood, but he os the one who has more things to hide. The type of character that fascinate me ,making me hope that i'll get the chance to read more about him.Charming attitude.Handsome.A good fighter. But exactly the type of character that ends up sacrificing everything for those who he loves.
The truth is Will wasn't the only one who caught my attention.James Carstairs(or Jem) is exactly the oppossite of Will, but he managed to win my heart with his kindness and simple way of being.Charming and handsome, but Jem can win your heart fast and easy.Same as Will,Jem is a good Shadowhunter, but he has a weakness that prevents him from being a fantastic fighter, yet that doesn't stops him from fighting.Even if i'm a little dissapointed because of that,i know what happened to Jem in the past and i can say that despite that he is an amazing character.Having an painfull past,Jem managed to surprise me until the end:he is the kind of character who never gives up,even if sometimes it was too hard for him to do something.
Question:How can i ever choose between them?Especially when they both are very charming and incredbile.
The story gets complicated, transfroming step by step into an aventure full of surprises and captivating moments.Sometimes i had to hold my breath, because some scenes were very intenses and i hated the fact that i couldn't pin-point what could happen next.
I admit that i didn't expect the way the story turned out at some point, especially after Tessa was saved from the Sisters Dark.I didn't expect the betrayal that follwed after everything that happened,or the way the action happened when those mechanincal creatures appeared.Yet Tessa's powers were the ones that fascinated me the most, even if she didn't know what she really was.
What i liked the most was the fact that from the beginning until the end there was a lot of actions, intense moments, suspense and a lot of things.A lot of ups and downs, especially when Tessa started learning about Downworlders and Nephilims.Even if her reaction was funny(i think i would have reacted worse then her),step by step the amusament dissapeard, because everything changed and evolved into something fascinating.
Besides those three characters,i had the pleasure to read about other amazing Shadowhunters:Charlotte and Henry Branwell, the liders of the London Institute. Two amazing characters i enjoyed reading about.A warlock(it wasn't the first time when i've read about him) named Magnus Bane, even if he was present just a little in this book. Those are the only characters that i liked and i hope to read more about them.
I loved the fighting scenes, the way those scenes were described, but what i loved the most was the fact that i could imagine in my mind how things happened.
I can say that this book is worth reading. The beginning of this adventure fascinatd me and made me curious, which means that i'll start reading the next book soon enough.I'm sure that i will devore that book, exactly how i did it with the first one.
Read this book ASAP!
