''Red Queen.The lightning girl.She lives.Rise,Red as dawn.Rise.Rise.Rise.''
Mare Barrow’s blood is red—the color of common folk—but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control.
The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince—the friend—who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: she is not the only one of her kind.
Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors.
But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat.
Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion? Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever?
Now ,after i've finally got the chance to read Glass Sword,i admit that i'm suprised and shocked about what happened. This book was brilliant, and like the first book in this series,it made me believe that this journey will have a badass end.Even if the way things happened in this book were mind-blowing and the end made me want to cry,i still believe that one way or another, Mare Barrow will become the one who will show everyone that Silvers and Reds can live in peace.
''People know my name, my face, and my abilities. I am valuable, I am powerful, and Maven will do anything to stop me from striking back.
In Red Queen,we got the chance to meet a lot of powerfull characters, but in Glass Sword we get the chance to meet the newbloods, those who have both Silver and Red blood, those who have unique powers, like Mare and her brother,Shade. But what happened in this book wasn't easy at all and it complicated everything.Between trying to save herself and those who've run with her,Mare has a new plan-find the newbloods from Julian's list.Find those who were in danger, but also she has to give them a choice:fight beside her or run to save their lifes. If only it could be so easy.
Sacrifice.Betrayal.Anger.Hope.Fight.And,finally,the thought of letting everyone else down, makes Mare a little reckless, but that doesn't stop her from showing everyone that she wasn't weak. The lighning girl was someone who everyone was afraid of.
''I see you as you could become,no longer the lightning, but the storm. The storm that will swallow the world entire.''
This book was fantastic from the beginning until the end.Every single chapter made me want to know more and i was constantly trying to be patience, because deep down i knew that something huge will happen.
It was hard sometimes to read everyone from Mare's point of view.I hated the way Maven made her feel about everything, because after all she was fighting for her life, she was trying to do everything she could to keep everyone alive, even if some of them couldn't understand her actions.Even when she was weak,Mare was fierce and determined to fight Maven with everything she had,but sometimes i thought that maybe one day she'll fall and that's because she was trying so hard to help everyone ,but she never thought what could happen to her.
Stronger and determined, that's what i loved more about this character.Mare become someone who everyone was afraid of ,but at the same time she was the same girl about whom we've read about in the first book. The only difference was the way her mind was working, trying to find a way to end this war, even if she knew that step by step everything could get more. complicated
“I made mistakes because of him. And,” he adds quietly, “I made mistakes because of you.”
At least,i'm happy that she wasn't alone in this journey.Cal,Kilorn,Shade,Farley..Those are a few names that were constantly present in this book, but i admit that the list in longer. Some of them were favorites of mine, especially Cal.He still has a piece of my heart, despite everything that happened in the last chapters of the Red Queen book.
I'm proud to admit that Cal managed to impress me with his attitude in this book.He didn't act like a prince, not at all.But ,i guess, he had a reason to be quiet and show everyone that he wasn't a traitor, and that he wanted the same things as Mare:Revenge and to kill Maven.Between those things,i loved reading about Cal's way of helping everyone-he was always there ,always doing something usefull. And,despite everything,he was always there for Mare.Helping her with the her powers,or just being there for her.
''Silver but not,Red but not, human, but not.A banner of the Scarlet Guard,a face in a wanted poster,a prince's downfall,a thief...a killer.A doll who can take any form but her own.''
Kilorn-that guy was too stubborn for his own good, but at least he was there for Mare when she needed a friend.I can say that i liked him ,but at some point i wanted to shake some sense in him.Farley, full of secrets like always, but she was determined to fight beside Mare, even if there were moments when i thought that she was one step away from strangling someone, and that someone might be too powerful to let her do something.Sometimes she wasn't perfect, but at least she was a good fighter.
Mare's brother,Shade,he was someone i never thought that i'll get the chance to read about. He was amazing and a good brother,a good fighter and because of his abillity he had a huge role in this story. It wasn't fair what happened to him,but i loved those chapter in which he was always present, always helping everyone .
''I am a weapon made of flesh,a sword covered in skin.I was born to kill a king,to end a reign of terror before it can truly begin.Fire and lightning reaised Maven up,and fire and lightning will bring him down.''
Every time i think about this book,i end up thinking about Maven, about what he had become.A mad young king who was constantly trying to trap the lightning girl.I admit that i liked this character in the beginning of the Red Queen book.He was fun then, but now?I no longer think of him as an interesting character. Now?I despise him with all my heart. Now more than ever,i know how desperate Maven was,but ..my heart tells me that i have to stop hoping for something good to happen to him, that he is not longer the Maven from the first book. And what happened in this book ..Proves that he will never be the same.
“Attend to your own fate, Mare Barrow.”
“And that is?”
“To rise. And rise alone.”
What i loved about this book was the fact that from the first chapter the fun begins.Fight after fight.Maven chasing Mare like a starving man,but every time he gets close to her,she manages to escape.Mad King or not,Maven's stubborness matched Mare's,but they are fighting for something different.
With every chapter,i wanted to know more and i wondered if something huge will happen. But now i realize that something huge was happening from the beginning and i was fascinated with everything. Each battle, each scar-everything was something huge, because after all the real battle between good and evil has begun from the moments Mare found out the truth about herself and her powers.
The end of the book? Was something that i hoped it never happen, but i suppose that the author has something big planned in the next book.I hope that it will be something incredible.
