Review:House of Royals (House of Royals #1) by Keary Taylor

Every town has its history and skeletons, but Silent Bend, Mississippi’s are darker than most. Ruled from the shadows by the House—the immortal Born and their aging, enslaved Bitten—everyone knows not to go out after dark and that the police will never look into crimes involving blood.

Alivia Ryan didn’t know the man who claims to be her father through a will even existed until she inherits the Conrath plantation. Instead of the sleepy house she expects, she finds a mansion and a staff who look at her with fear in their eyes.

Ian Ward tried to kill Alivia the first time they met, and then insisted he train her to defend herself against the House, who he claims will try to manipulate and take her in for their own political reasons. And the growing attraction between them will threaten their lives—Ian is a sworn enemy of the House.

In Silent Bend, people disappear, the threat of a demented King and the legend of his resurrecting Queen hang over everyone’s heads, and proving loyalty means far more than blood. You’d better watch who you trust in this town…

Review:

''Because when you're backed against the wall, you have to turn the tables and find a way to break through the wall at your back.''

Every time i start reading a book written by Keary i wonder what it will be about this time or if it will as good as i expect. And it was.And i'm a little shocked.Because everything changed step by step and it was really interesting!
But..In a way ,i thought that everything happened a little too fast, from the beginning until the end.A lot of things happened and the action was good, but too fast! And i don't like that. Not at all.

Alivia Ryan's life changed completely when she founds out that she inherited a lot of money and the Conrath Plantation in Silent Bend. She didn't even know who her father was and the fact that he left everything to her was a big surprise. But what Alivia doesn't know is that Silent Bend is a dangerous city, where evil exists and something dangerous haunts the streets at night. But her first night in Silent Bend she almost got killed by someone who claims to be a vampire hunter.

''I wonder ,if i weren't wearing this mask,if my face weren't hidden, how many people would recognize me for who i am?How many people here would be afraid of me?How many would look at me with disdain and condemn me for the sins of my father?''

I guess it was fun reading about Alivia and what was happening in Silent Bend. There were a lot of strange things, but what made me more curious to know more was the story about the House of Royals. It got me thinking about what could happen or how Alivia will be as a vampire. But,unfortunately,i didn't get the chance to read about that in this book.Despite that,my attention was drawn by the members of the House of Royals from Silent Bend.Honestly? Those character were batshit crazy! Not all-i liked Lillian and Cameron, but the rest?Strange, evil and ..Uh,i'm stoping here!

''I may always live on the edge, always ready for something, but i can't live in fear all the time.It took me a while to realize that.We have to live our lives.''

But despite all those never-and-crazy-things-i-found-about-my-new-life ,there were two people who helped Alivia adjust to her new life,o should i say trained her and told her all the secrets?Well, yeah!
Rath-strange guy,but he was there for Alivia.Always ,lurking in the shadows trying to protect her ,even when she was trying to show him that she was brave enough. There were a lot of scenes when i thought that Alivia had a death wish!Anyway,Rath-well,he was an enigma for me ,but at least i understand why he was there and why he wanted to help her so much.

And the main reason why i knew this story will be really interesting until the end:

Ian Ward-at first i thought he was someone who i won't like.I mean,c'mon, the way he met Alivia wasn't exactly a good start, but step by step he transformed into a nice guy.Well, let's just say that he was too stubborn for his own good. The good thing about his presence in this book?He was there for Alivia, even when he was acting like he didn't care or when she made him promise not to fall in love with her.

Heck, that was a crazy promise to make, but it was fun!

There were moments when i was a little confused, but i kept reading because i wanted to know more about the Royals and the King.I loved the way Rath spoke about the Conrath Plantation, the way he told Alivia the houses history and everything that happened there.Yeah,it was a little strange, but i liked it.

The end of the book?It was hard to read those chapters. But at the end of the book i was soo surprised about how it ended ..Yay!
Can't wait to read the next book.
