Book Blitz : Debt Collector by Susan Kaye Quinn

Debt Collector by Susan Kaye Quinn
Series: Debt Collector, Serial 1-3
Publication date: 2013
Genre: NA Future-Noir

EPISODES 1-3 (Delirium, Agony, Ecstasy) of the Debt Collector serial. Contains mature content and themes. For young-adult-appropriate thrills, see Susan's bestselling Mindjack series.

What's your life worth on the open market?
A debt collector can tell you precisely.

Lirium plays the part of the grim reaper well, with his dark trenchcoat, jackboots, and the black marks on his soul that every debt collector carries. He's just in it for his cut, the ten percent of the life energy he collects before he transfers it on to the high potentials, the people who will make the world a better place with their brains, their work, and their lives. That hit of life energy, a bottle of vodka, and a visit from one of Madam Anastazja's sex workers keep him alive, stable, and mostly sane... until he collects again. But when his recovery ritual is disrupted by a sex worker who isn't what she seems, he has to choose between doing an illegal hit for a girl whose story has more holes than his soul or facing the bottle alone--a dark pit he's not sure he'll be able to climb out of again.

The first three episodes of the Debt Collector serial are collectively the length of a short novel, or 152 pages. These are the first three of nine episodes in the first season of The Debt Collector serial. This dark and gritty future-noir is about a world where your life-worth is tabulated on the open market and going into debt risks a lot more than your credit rating. Episode 4, Broken, releases 4/17/13. For more about the Debt Collector serial, see

Susan Kaye Quinn grew up in California, where she wrote snippets of stories and passed them to her friends during class. Her teachers pretended not to notice and only confiscated her stories a couple times.

Susan left writing behind to pursue a bunch of engineering degrees, but she was drawn back to writing by an irresistible urge to share her stories with her niece, her kids, and all the wonderful friends she’s met along the way.

She doesn’t have to sneak her notes anymore, which is too bad.

Susan writes from the Chicago suburbs with her three boys, two cats, and one husband. Which, it turns out, is exactly as a much as she can handle.

Excerpt from Delirium (Debt Collector 1) by Susan Kaye Quinn:

My jackboots are new, the latest ultra-light material out of Hong Kong’s synthetics district, and they make a strange squeaking sound against the hospital floor. It’s the kind of sound that might gather snickers or a raised eyebrow, but no one looks at me, at least not on purpose. I stroll past the ICU desk, taking my time, breathing in the antiseptic smell that masks the odor of death held back by machines and drugs and round-the-clock care. The nurses duck their heads and study their charts, ignoring me. As if catching my eye might mean I’m coming to collect their debt, rather than Mr. Henry’s in Room 301.
The floor is so highly polished that I see the reflection of my trenchcoat running ahead of me, black as a midnight grave, a spook that lives on the surface of the oft-scrubbed tiles. It reaches the door to 301 before me and disappears in the dim, flickering light coming from the room. The spook has gone back where he belongs, into the dark recesses of my soul, assuming I still have one. If I was a betting man, I would say the odds of having a soul keep getting longer with every transfer I do. The older debt collectors, the ones who are still alive, don’t have anything shining out of their dull-glass eyes, even when they’re hyped up on a transfer. There’s no telling what my eyes look like.
I stopped looking in the mirror a long time ago.
Mr. Henry’s hooked up in all the usual places—tubes in his arms and monitor patches hovering over his temples and the blue-veined skin of his chest. His knobbed knees and shriveled legs stick out the end of the blanket. I don’t know if he’s tossed the blanket aside or the nurses just forgot to cover him up again after his sponge bath or whatever they do to prepare patients for a debt transfer. Goosebumps raise the hair on what’s left of his legs into a small forest of gray fur. I tug the thin, white-weave blanket over his exposed legs, and Mr. Henry opens his eyes.
They’re pale green and watery—washed out and used up like the rest of him.
“You’ve come for me,” he says.

Emancipating Andie by Priscilla Glenn-Release Event +Guest Post

Title: Emancipating Andie

Author: Priscilla Glenn

Release date: April 27, 2013

Age Group: Adult

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Event organized by: AToMR Tours

Book Description:

Ever since the one time Andie Weber threw caution to the wind - and paid the price for it - she’s learned that it’s safer and smarter to live life playing by the rules. Now she’s got a great apartment, a steady job, and a wonderful boyfriend in Colin; he’s sweet, stable, and essentially perfect – except maybe for the fact that his best friend is Chase.

Chase McGuire lives his carefree, unstructured life strictly for himself. Dripping sarcasm and oozing wit, he refuses to censor his feelings or opinions for anyone, making no apologies for either and wearing his abrasiveness like a badge of honor. No one has ever gotten under Andie’s skin the way Chase does – and vice versa.

So when Andie and Chase find themselves forced to take a two-day road trip together, they are already dreading an inevitable all-out war. But as the trip progresses, and the undeniable friction that has always defined their relationship slowly begins to wear away their preconceived notions of each other, Andie and Chase discover they both have a lot to learn about life, courage, happiness, and the age-old battle between logic and love.

About the author:

Priscilla Glenn lives in New York with her husband and three children. She has been teaching English Language Arts at the middle and high school levels for the past eleven years while moonlighting as a writer, mommy, coach, student, and professional laundry-doer.

Guest Post #1
Andie and Chase

Back when I was in the early stages of writing Emancipating Andie, I was having a conversation with one of my non-author friends about how the first few chapters of a novel always take me the longest to write. When she asked me why, I said, “Because I don’t know the characters yet.” I remember how thrown she was by that answer. “I don’t get it. How are you writing about them, then? Don’t you plan all that out ahead of time?”

The truth is, I don’t. I don’t know if this is how all authors work, but for me, when I begin a story, it is with a very basic concept. A general idea of who my characters are and what’s going to happen to them. When I began Emancipating Andie, I knew that Andie was uptight and a “rule-follower.” I knew that Chase was fun, snarky, and a bit of an a-hole. I knew that they were going to be forced to co-exist with each other, and that when they were together, sparks would fly (both good and bad). And that was it. I didn’t know why she was so uptight. I didn’t know why Chase was rough around the edges. Not until I put them in that car and they started talking to each other and letting their guards down.

It’s somewhat difficult to explain, and I’m sure it makes me sound a bit crazy, but there are these moments when I’m writing, these little epiphanies, where the characters reveal themselves to me. I will be writing a scene, and suddenly I just know that “he would say this” or “she would do that,” and I think, “Of course!” The more that happens, the closer I become to them, and the easier it is to write them. As it turns out, Andie is actually funny and brave. And Chase? He’s talented and extremely profound. I didn’t know that about them when I started.

So I hope the ride you take as a reader is similar to the one I took as an author. I hope you’re eager to learn about Andie and Chase, that you’re pleased/surprised/thrilled/swooning as they start revealing themselves to you, and that by the end of their story, you love them as much as I do.

Book Description:
Laura Drake is an author.  She writes bestselling paranormal romances that continue to top the charts.  She is sharp.  She is confident.  She is in control.
And she doesn’t exist.
Samantha Jansen is the woman behind the wig, the woman most of the world doesn’t know exists.  She is shy.  She is insecure.  She is nothing like her main character or her alter ego.  She is scarred—deeply scarred—by a past she can’t let go of and a present she can’t make peace with.
Samantha’s dreams are consumed by one man, the broken hero from her books.  Mason Strait is both her wildest fantasy and her most terrifying nightmare.
When Samantha meets Alec Brand, a corporate consultant, it is as though Mason has come to life.  Alec is handsome to a fault, as elegant as he is arrogant, and more intense than any man has a right to be.
Samantha is soon sucked into a world that mirrors the fiction she writes.  Just like her main character, Daire Kirby, Samantha finds herself unable to resist the forbidden lure of Alec.  And just like Daire, she also finds that she is faced with taking a chance on a man who could either set her free or destroy her.
The scale tilts toward destruction when Samantha finds out that Alec is as much a work of fiction as Mason.  And he has scars of his own, scars that could ruin them both.

- The Bulletin

“Un roman urban fantasy elegant, pasionant.” - Publishers Weekly

Publicarea primului său roman, Falling Through Darkness, în anul 2002, i-a transformat viaţa

Teoretic, Nikki are dreptate.

– The New York Times

– USA Today
Îşi vor aminti oamenii de mine? Ce sens are viaţa mea?

– The New York Times

– Kami Garcia, co-autoarea seriei Cronicile Casterilor

– The Los Angeles Times

Review:Dare You To by Katie McGarry.

"I dare you..."

If anyone knew the truth about Beth Risk's home life, they'd send her mother to jail and seventeen-year-old Beth who knows where. So she protects her mom at all costs. Until the day her uncle swoops in and forces Beth to choose between her mom's freedom and her own happiness. That's how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn't want her and going to a school that doesn't understand her. At all. Except for the one guy who shouldn't get her, but does....

Ryan Stone is the town golden boy, a popular baseball star jock-with secrets he can't tell anyone. Not even the friends he shares everything with, including the constant dares to do crazy things. The craziest? Asking out the Skater girl who couldn't be less interested in him.

But what begins as a dare becomes an intense attraction neither Ryan nor Beth expected. Suddenly, the boy with the flawless image risks his dreams-and his life-for the girl he loves, and the girl who won't let anyone get too close is daring herself to want it all....

The first time i saw the title i was curious to know how Beth's story will be.When i saw the blurb i was speechless because i thought that this will be about Beth and Isaiah ,not Beth and Ryan. When i saw the cover i forgot about Isaiah and i was like: Holy Moly!Yes i want to read this right now!
Now after i read the book i'm pretty sure that its better that this wasn't about Isaiah and Beth.
Anyway..I never thought that i would like Beth.Yeah, she was in Pushing The Limits, but i never paid attention to all the things she did because i was pretty much busy trying to understand the relationship between Noah and Echo.Now..Well,let's say that Beth's reactions and the things she did made me laugh out loud and sometimes get really mad because she was so damn stubborn. The point is that her life wasn't so great ,but everything changed!

I love when things change and the girl or the boy -the main character- is always trying to do things her/his way,but in the end she/he realizes that everything is how is supposed to be.

In this case...

From the beginning i was completely sure that Ryan and Beth were meant to be together.Yeah,it was hard ,but they didn't give up.Or at least Ryan didn't give up at first.
Between Scott,Beth's mother,Isaiah and Trent the only one who made me smile was Ryan, although there were moments when he was acting like a idiot.
He was the kind of person who despite everything that happened in his life never judge Beth and all he wanted to do was to help her.I'm not saying that Isaiah and Noah abandoned Beth-at least they got no choice in that matter, but in a way i was glad that the one who helped Beth realize that she was worth fighting for was Ryan.It made me like him even more.

Isaiah.I was sad because the way things turned out for him,but for me he will always be Beth's best friend.Honestly i can't imagine them being more than friends. And Noah?Ha!I'm glad that i could read a little about him in this book.

I have to admit that i'm impressed. This book was better then the first one,but all the emotions-the mixed emotions..It was a roller coster of events that created a beautiful story.Ryan and Beth's story.
All the characters were amazing and some of them pissed me off,but what really matters is the part they had in everything.
Honestly i never expected this book to be so complicated and beautiful at the same time.It made me realize that sometimes you have to forget about the past and focus on the present and the future even if it is hard.Going back and trying to help someone who doesn't want your help isn't right.

That's what Beth tried to do and the price was ..high.

Losing high-stakes poker has its consequences, but he’d repeatedly face them just to hear Lacey Douglas sing. Drake sees Lacey light up the stage, and he has to have her. But his intentions for being on her side of town turn out to be the reason he can’t.

Chicago native Lacey has dreams of the opera, but life has its obstacles. Lacey has come to know her hardships as part of living in the real world and accepts them fully. When Lacey meets the intense and invigorating Drake, a fire is lit inside her, unleashing those dreams again.

Two paths that should have never crossed prove to create the exact pairing the other needs. But when their worlds take time to catch up, everything they have is tested. Finding the space between the two sides that challenge them will be hard, but it’s the only place that will keep them together.

You can't tell your heart what to feel or what not,but when true love is involved nothing else matters.
The Space Between is a beautiful story about a boy and a girl whom fell in love but there reasons why they had to hide that.

Lacey's life was not easy at all.Between taking care of her mother and working she ignored her dreams and never planned to fall in love. But you can't plan something like and certainly you can't ignore what your heart wants. She tried. But,honestly,it was enough that she couldn't follow her dreams, and i was glad when she finally accepted that she had to do something for her.

Drake has everything he wants-almost everything. But he needed only one night to find the one person who completed his life.Being rich doesn't mean anything if you're not loved like you want, that's Drake's problem.I liked him because he tried so hard..even if he tried to get his parents attention by doing stupid things.Everyone tries in different ways..

I can't remember how many times i held my breath while i read this book.Too many times, that i can tell.

This book was completely crazy-in a good way.And i really liked what i read..
Not everything was perfect and i admit that it drove me crazy how some things happened, but i quickly forgot about those and i focussed on the good ones-especially when Drake and Lacey were involved.

Intense.Crazy.Perfect.Happy.And the list is too long so i'll stop right now..

Between Lacey's mother's sickness and Drake's awful parents all i wished for was the torture to end.Yes,it was torture. At least it was for me.Mainly what Drake's parents did was awful.

Despite all those things the rest wasn't so bad. Some charactrers were good. Some were bad.But that's how it was supposed to be.
It's amazing how just one story made me feel so many things..
Happines when Drake and Lacey were together.Sadness because of what happened to Lacey' mother.Anger because of how blind Drake's parents were.

But in the end i was happy because after all that happened , Drake and Lacey got what they wanted.

I'm so glad that i could read this book.It was a breathtaking story with so many new things to learn.
Beautiful isn't enough to describe how Victoria wrote everything. All i want to add is :You Have To Read This Book!

Currently Reading #15

Lame.

In orice caz..Sunt happy..Maine apare Twisted Perfection de Abbi Glines, volumul trei din seria Too Far!!!E despre Woods <3

Fate isn’t something to mess with… and now, neither is Alex.

Alex has always feared two things: losing herself in the Awakening and being placed on the Elixir. But love has always been stronger than Fate, and Aiden St. Delphi is willing to make war on the gods—and Alex herself—to bring her back.

The gods have killed thousands and could destroy entire cities in their quest to stop Seth from taking Alex’s power and becoming the all-powerful God Killer. But breaking Alex’s connection to Seth isn’t the only problem. There are a few pesky little loopholes in the whole “an Apollyon can’t be killed” theory, and the only person who might know how to stop the destruction has been dead for centuries.

Finding their way past the barriers that guard the Underworld, searching for one soul among countless millions, and then somehow returning will be hard enough. Alex might be able to keep Seth from becoming the God Killer… or she might become the God Killer herself.

After her brush with death at Ian Crane’s compound, Talia Lyons feels like a prisoner, confined in her childhood home. Plagued with seizures- the result of an unidentified drug injected in her neck by Crane’s men- Talia must put her dream of becoming a Hunter on hold. So when Agency Director McDonough asks Talia to go undercover at the School for the Talented, to find the spy who set the trap for her in Nevada, Talia jumps at the opportunity.

Soon she learns that her new-found freedom comes with a price- working with Donavon on a daily basis. As if that isn’t awkward enough, her former teammate, Erik, also shows up at the School. But at least Talia has the unexpected company of her best friend Penny; to not only assist her in uncovering the spy, but also to deal with the complications that the guys create.

As Talia becomes more entrenched in her assignment, she quickly learns the lengths that the Agency and Mac will go in the name of war. With Crane’s influence spreading, Talia learns that there are few Operatives without ties to the Coalition. Forced to face hard truths and dangerous conclusions, Talia realizes that it is those closest to her who are hiding the biggest secrets. As the task of finding the traitor becomes more problematic, desperation and frustration rule Talia’s world. It becomes clear that Talia can’t do this alone. But who can she trust, when everyone around her is lying?

“Each of us had reached Eden in our own way. Those who had survived the Fall had figured out that it wasn’t safe to be in the cities anymore. With so much electricity and other mechanical resources available, the Fallen flocked to them. If you were smart you ran as fast as you could toward the mountains or to the open country. ”

Review : Aftermath by Denise Grover Swank

Scarlett Goodwin’s world is divided into Before and After.

Before she agreed to tutor Tucker price, college junior Scarlett was introvert, struggling with her social anxiety and determined to not end up living in a trailer park like her mother and her younger sister. A mathematics major, she goes to her classes, to her job in the tutoring lab, and then hides in the apartment she shares with her friend, Caroline.

After junior Tucker Price, Southern University’s star soccer player enters the equation, her carefully plotted life is thrown off its axis. Tucker’s failing his required College Algebra class. With his eligibility is at risk, the university chancellor dangles an expensive piece of computer software for the math department if Scarlett agrees to privately tutor him.Tucker’s bad boy, womanizer reputation makes Scarlett wary of any contact, let alone spending several hours a week in close proximity.

But from her first encounter, she realizes Tucker isn’t the person everyone else sees. He carries a mountain of secrets which she suspects hold the reason to his self-destructive behavior. But the deeper she delves into the cause of his pain, the deeper she gets sucked into his chaos. Will Scarlett find the happiness she’s looking for, or will she be caught in Tucker’s aftermath?

Never in my life i felt so confused when i had to write a review. This book wasn't bad, maybe a little too much drama, but that's not something new when it comes to this kind of books.Did i like the book?Hell yeah!Maybe too much for my taste. Now i'm really not making sense, right?
Well,i hope what i'm about to write will make sense..

Meet Scarlett Goodwin,a girl with a bad past whom is trying to live her life trying to be careful.A math lover.A girl who ,because of what she's been through in the past, has too many issues.Something that i can understand. ..But.Everything.Changes!Guess why? There's a boy..Yeah,i know.Typical, but crazy. At first they are just friends.Seriously?Yeah.That's what they thought.Me?I was like: 1+1 = 2.Hmm..Maybe my imagination was running wild before time.Yeah.Well,you'll start thinking exactly like me when you meet the boy...

Meet Tucker Price. The  boy whom everyone knows because of his reputation,or at least everyone thought they knew him.But..There's something about Tucker that will make you want to know him.To find every little secret he has.Not all,but at least a few.The important ones. The problem? The girl he asks to tutor him in math, can see right past his bad boy facade.I'm pretty sure it's easy to guess who the girl is..If not, read above ,the first description..His past?Bad.The reason why he has the charming attitude and the desire to push everyone he loves away.

Remember: Bad Boy+Good Girl= Disaster....In a good way..Maybe.Beautiful Disaster?Exactly.

This book was about two broken people who find each other-or i should say math brought them together?-,and that's how the story starts. They are just two students who are struggling to move on,to live their life and leave the past behind, but it's not easy.
It was a little sad, mainly because i hated how everything happened at some point. And it was Scarlett's fault. Why?Because she was so easy.I'm not saying that i prefer Tucker. He was the charming boy who,if you don't count the bad past, thought he could have every girl he wanted. Not Scarlett. At least not at the beginning..but that changed,so it wasn't different, only that he fell in love.Holy moly..

Thinking about what happened,i admit that not everything was perfect and i didn't expect that.In my opinion it was a crazy story, but some scenes i really liked.

It was hard for me to ignore sometimes how Tucker acted different when he was with Scarlett. The little things he did .Sometimes he was a mystery.Sometimes he was a good friends.Sometimes he was sweet. And sometimes he was annoying.Scarlett?Sometimes naive and too smart.I liked her and i guess after all she did what she thought was good for her...You can't tell your heart what to feel, even if you mind screams: BAD!

Sometimes when two broken people meet they usually end up fixing each other, their love is more intense and they usually tend to do stupid things , and sometimes they have to choose between trying to stay or run.To take the chance or not.In this case?Good and bad things happened. The End?Fantastic.

It was pretty good story. The first one written by Denise i read, and i admit that it was ok.More than ok.

Josh is asking for a divorce. Her heart squeezes, but, well, he moved on a long time ago. But the second envelope shakes Cassie to the core.
